Wi-Fi technology is now the most important factor when considering purchasing a PC according to a survey carried out by market research firm Ipsos MORI.The survey, which asked 9,000 computer users in 18 countries found that wireless connectivity was now more important than processor power, portability or even the Internet.
Around half of all UK-based respondents said that they believed wireless would help to increase productivity with 80 per cent citing flexibility and mobile access as the main benefits.
"Work priorities such as the need for flexible working and mobile access to information are combining with an acceptance of wireless from the workplace and filtering down to our homes," said Lexmark's director of the consumer printer division, Marcus Harvey.
"Eight out of 10 people cite flexibility and mobility as the main benefit of wireless, and this is exactly what people want from their home computing experience. There is only so much more power people need from their processors. The priorities are now about working smarter, not faster."
The survey also found that six out of ten homes questioned had Wi-Fi while half of those had printers connected to it.
