Microsoft has today confirmed that Window Vista's eagerly awaited SP1 will be released to the public in Q1 2008, also revealing that a private beta would be released in two weeks time to 10,000 specially selected testers. The beta will also see the private release of the third service pack for XP.Speaking about what Vista's first service pack will contain, David Zipkin, senior product manager in the Windows Client group at Microsoft explained that it would be different from what the last service pack Microsoft released.
"Windows XP SP2 was a departure from what we like service packs to be. Vista SP1 is about improvements to the user experience and enhancing existing capabilities," he said.
He expanded upon that by explaining that it would mostly be a collection of existing fixes and tweaks that Microsoft had already sent out via its auto patches.
The news comes as the senior product manager with Microsoft's server group, Helene Love Snell wrote on the group's blog that Windows Server 2008 had been delay, also till Q1 2008.
"Microsoft's first priority is to deliver a great product to our customers and partners, and while we're very happy with the feedback we're getting and the overall quality of the latest product builds, we would rather spend a little more time to meet the high quality bar that our customers and partners deserve and expect," Love Snell wrote.
