Vista on the horizon for hackers in 2008

Vista on the horizon for hackers in 2008 A McAfee analyst has warned that Vista will face more than 40 vulnerabilities next year as hackers turn their attention to the fledgling OS, as its market share passes ten per cent.

"Most of the current malware has ignored Vista," said Craig Schmugar, a threat researcher at McAfee's Avert Lab. He also warned that Vista was lucky to have had a relatively threat-free first year, saying that it was not because of its security technology, but because hackers hadn't seen it as a worthwhile target.

"These people make their living writing malware or attacking users," he said. "They're driven by financial motivation, and only when market share has an impact will they really work on Vista."
