Distributor VIP is warning resellers to be aware of a possible swarm of stolen Microsoft software entering the market, following the theft of a huge overnight shipment on January 14th. Several thousand units of software were lost in the raid, which though have since been deactivated by Microsoft, have yet to be recovered.
“Although this is a serious incident for VIP and Microsoft, we are working closely with Microsoft, our insurers and the police to try and recover and remove these goods from the channel,” said Mark Lynch, Microsoft product manager at VIP Computers. “I would just want to warn anybody from buying from unauthorised resellers, as there is a risk they may be unknowingly purchasing this stolen stock, which unfortunately cannot be activated due to all the licenses already being identified and cancelled.
“I would strongly recommend that people looking to purchase Microsoft OEM products do so through an Authorised Distributor such as ourselves, to ensure the authenticity of your Microsoft product.”
