Alternative video streaming website Vimeo has at last released mobile applications for devices other than the iPhone, releasing versions for Android, the Amazon Kindle Fire and Windows Phone.
"With mobile devices making up approximately 15 percent of our site traffic, we recognize the importance of expanding our platforms to allow people to access Vimeo from as many devices as possible," said Vimeo mobile developer Joe Schmitt.
The seven Windows Phone owners will doubtless be thrilled with Vimeo's all-inclusive strategy while the ever ungrateful Android posse has rewarded the the free mobile app with a mere 2.5 stars on the Android Marketplace. Android user 'budzy' whined that the lack of of a landscape UI on the debut client was a 'ridiculous omission'.
The free applications can be downloaded from the Google Android Market, Amazon App Store and Windows Phone Marketplace. Compatible with Android devices with Android 2.3 'Gingerbread' and up and Windows Phones with the latest 'Mango' update, the Vimeo mobile clients allow not only viewing but also uploading raw footage.
The apps also provide the ability to share videos via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, WordPress, Email and SMS and also provide the ability to comment on videos and pause/resume uploads of video footage in SD or HD.
