Nvidia has officially unveiled the worlds first quad-core mobile processor, the Tegra 3.
According to PhysOrg, the new chip is based on the ARM Cortex-A9 processor, which was notable for its low power consumption, and the Tegra 3 is reported to offer five times the performance capacity of its predecessor with just 61 per cent of its power consumption.
It utilises four processor cores as well as a fifth ‘companion core’, which is designed to handle less intensive additional tasks such as background updates and listening to music.
The device is expected to give a huge boost to the tablet category, and has already been deployed in the Asus Eeepad Transformer Prime.
