The DigiTimes reported that US retail giant Best Buy is experiencing a ‘fully booked’ quota of preorders for the upcoming Motorola Xoom tablet.
The Taiwanese industry watcher said that the Xoom ODM manufacturer Compal had shipped around 700 to 800,000 of the Android 3.0-powered Xoom tablets, according to sources within Motorola’s supply chain.
Retail channel sources were optimistic about the sales potential, believing that it will be competitive against the Apple iPad. The Motorola Xoom is set to be the first Android ‘Honeycomb’ tablet to arrive in the US market.
However tech blog Engadget reviewed the Xoom and said "a lot of the new software feels like it isn’t quite out of beta", concluding that the user experience "isn’t nearly where it needs to be."
Engadget lamented the lack of tablet-compatible applications and said that while the new Android OS and the Xoom hardware is "spectacular", that both were a "spectacular work in progress."
