UK trade union, Unite has blasted plans to cut the final salary pension scheme by Fujitsu.
According to the trade union, around 4,000 Fujitsu employees in the UK received letters from the company warning them that it was planning to review the pension scheme and that it would be starting a 90-day consultation process.
It attacked the company's record of bonus payments and pay freezes: "Fujitsu Services is a highly profitable company and made £177m profit in the last financial year," scorned Unite national officer, Peter Skye.
He went on to accuse the company of putting profits ahead of its employees, warning that it could make it more difficult in the future to hire blue-chip talent. "The company has yet to produce any proper justification for this latest attempt to raise profits by cutting pension benefits, and this action may hinder future bids for blue chip private sector outsourcing contracts."
The union has said that it will be seeking to fight any plans to close the scheme.
