AMD may be looking to jump on board Intel's ultrabook initiative with thin and light notebook designs based on Fusion APUs.
Australia/New Zealand AMD boss Brian Slattery told The Australian (paywall) that talks were "particularly advanced" with one manufacturer regarding new thin laptop designs based on AMD's integrated CPU/GPU chips, the Fusion platform.
While Intel had to take the initiative and create hardware plans for MacBook Air-like devices, AMD seems content to let manufacturers work out the details for themselves.
Presumably manufacturers will be able to essentially retrofit ultrabook designs with AMD hardware instead.
The comments fueled speculation that AMD will reveal 'ultrathin' notebooks from manufacturing partners at CES 2012 in January, likely based on the Brazos 2.0 platform with the Zacate Fusion APU.
