Job ads for UK tech startups increase by almost 50 per cent on 2012, fueled by competitive salaries

UK tech startups see big jobs boost

The number of tech startups in the UK advertising jobs has risen by almost 50 per cent, compared to 2012.

The figures emerged from a collaborative research effort between the startup jobs fair firm Silicon Milkroundabout and the job search engine Adzuna.

According to the data, there are 44 per cent of tech startup jobs being advertised now than this time last year, hitting a peak of almost 5,000 vacancies.

In most demand are developers, being sought for just under a third (31 per cent) of the offered jobs. A quarter (24 per cent) were seeking marketers, with another 12 per cent after ‘product people’.

For developers, it seems to be an extremely beneficial time to be jobseeking – not only are there lots of jobs available, but on average those hired will earn £45,088, almost a fifth (17 per cent) more than the £38,426 national average salary for their fellows.

Designers are also in luck, with a five per cent higher wage than those not working in a tech startup – £38,692 against £36,757.

The most appealing reasons for working at a tech startup were also found, including, as mentioned above, a competitive wage, working in a smaller team, being able to directly influence the product and flexible working hours.
