Samsung retains number one position in market

UK sees growth in large format displays

Sales of large format displays (LFDs) have been boosted in the UK, so says analyst Context.

Vendor shipments of LFDs have increased by 41.27 per cent during Q1 2015, plus shipments were also up across EMEA by 36 per cent in Q1 2015 compared to Q1 2014.

According to Context, two screen sized have been driving the growth, including 34-inches and below, which saw sales increase by 68 per cent year-on-year.

In addition, unit sales of screens with a size of 65-inches and above increased by 92 per cent.

Lachlan Welsh, senior analyst at Context, said: “There is a developing trend for vendors to offer reliable, low-cost digital signage, which is used in more and more retail outlets, restaurants and offices because it is dynamic and easy to update.

“This has led to more engaged customers and workers; not only is their experience more exciting, but they are also presented with the right message at the right time, whereas that delivered through printed signage was often too broad and out of date.”

The display segment now holds a 31 per cent market share in EMEA, an increase of over 10 per cent form the year before.

Context states that interactive displays, 4K and Ultra-HD displays have contributed to this growth.

Samsung also retained its number one position in the display market with a total market share of 47 per cent, while NEC and LG came second and third place with shares of 14 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
