UK PC market soars

Andrew Wooden
UK PC market soars Despite a gloomy outlook fuelled by talk of credit crunches and possible recessions, the PC sector had a blinding month in April, with total sales jumping by 42 per cent in year-on-year, the highest monthly increase in 13 months.

Much of this success was down to the business PC channel, which also had its best individual month for the past 13.

Though sales of mobile PCs (laptops and notebooks) slowed down during April compared to March, the figures highlighted the continued dominance of them compared to desktops in the retail sector, with mobile PCs accounting for 83 per cent of total sales during April.

Desktop wise, under £300 PCs made up 45 per cent of sales, though the over £500 price point grew year-on-year during the month, apparently driven by ‘all-in-one entertainment’ models.
