There are now 16.5 million households in the UK with a connection to the internet, an increase of 1.23 million from the same time last year.Figures reveal that the higher the educational qualifications of a household, the more likely it is to have an internet access, and that over 86 per cent of those households have broadband connection speed.
93 per cent of higher educated adults under the age of 70 had internet access in their home, compared to just 56 per cent of people who were formally unqualified.
Online shopping has also increased in popularity with 55 per cent of those surveyed saying they had used e-tail, 81 per cent of whom had done so within the last three months.
