Video games were the best-selling area of UK entertainment industry

UK digital game sales rose by 18% in 2014

Sales of digital games online on mobile and tablet rose by 18.8 per cent to £1.5 billion in the UK during 2014.

According to the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA), video game sales in the UK rose by 7.5 per cent in 2014, with almost £2.5 billion taken in total.

However, physical sales of games declined by 6.6 per cent to £948.5 million in 2014.

ERA’s director general Kim Bayley, via MCV, said: “2014 was a remarkably successful year for retailers and digital services as they continued to invest in the future of the entertainment business.”

Sales of video game software increased by 7.5 per cent from 2013 to 2014, with a total of £2.452 billion.

The research also revealed that video games were the biggest-selling area of the UK entertainment industry.
