Texas Instruments has confirmed that it has had its first taste of success on the tablet market as it's OMAP 4430 processor has been selected as the applications processor for the upcoming Blackberry Playbook tablet from Research in Motion Inc.
According to EE Times, TI's OMAP product line manager Brian Carlson claimed that the company has secured other tablet victories but he could not reveal any more information publicly at this moment in time.
The OMAP 4430 is a 45nm, 1-GHz processor with two ARM Cortex-A9 cores and it's MShield mobile security technology looks to be a main reason as to why RIM selected the software for its BlackBerry Playbook. This technology will enhance the security of several aspects of the tablet including transactions, content and network access.
The BlackBerry Playbook will be availible later this year with key features including a 7-inch WSVGA multi-touch screen and memory configurations available in 16, 32 and 64 GB.
