Thieves take down O2 mobile network

The British mobile network O2 went down for many of the firm's customers after thieves reportedly damaged equipment during a 'well organised theft.'

An array of networking equipment was taken in a midnight raid on an O2 network center in East London, leaving many of the firm's London, Kent, Essex and Sussex customers customers without call or text capability for much of the day.

Repairs were delayed by a police investigation that required access to gather evidence in the pursuit of the enterprising crooks.

O2 began restoring services from around 4.30pm a ‘few pockets of noncoverage’ persisted into the night. The telco said it was monitoring the service.
