The sub ?100 desktop arrives

The sub ?100 desktop arrives

The commoditisation of PCs continues unabated as, at today's exchange rate, a PC is being offered for under £100.

U.S. giant mass merchandiser Walmart is offering the Everex TC2502 Green gPC for a piffling $199. It comes with a 1.5 GHz Via C7-D processor and a gOS operating system, which is aparently derived from Ubuntu.

The price is for a base-unit only, although for another $99 you can get one with Windows and peripherals and everything. Except a monitor. And performance. And technical support.

With Walmart owning Asda and Tesco aspiring to be Walmart, is surely won't be long before we see the first sub £100 PC in the UK, making the recently launched £219 Asus laptop seem like an outrageous extravagence.
