Apple is set to announce that the 60s supergroup Beatles will finally appear on the iTunes music store according to a Wall Street Journal report.
The WSJ said that talks had taken place as soon as last week to bring the entire back catalog to the digital store, rectifying possibly the most obvious hole in the iTunes music catalogue and one that has persisted ever since the service first launched.
One of the reasons the Beatles has not appeared on iTunes is due to ongoing trademark litigation between Apple Corps and Apple Computer which has been on again and off again since the 1970s. However the last case had been resolved nearly three years ago.
Sales of Beatles albums continues to be one of EMIs largest sources of revenue, even without digital downloads when the remastered Beatles albums were launched in 2009 they sold 2.25 million worldwide in the first two weeks of sale.
