Tesco benefited from record sales over the Christmas period, in particular from strong sales of sales of laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players.Non-food sales were particularly healthy for the retailer, with most categories, including PCs seeing strong market share growth. It highlighted sales of laptops, digital cameras and MP3 players as key growth areas.
Total UK sales grew by 8.0 per cent, an increase of 5.1 per cent in like-for-like growth and a 2.9 per cent increase from net new space. However, discounting petrol, like-for-like sales only increased by 3.1 per cent, a slow down from 4.1 per cent growth in the third quarter.
