Team of the Month: WD's UK sales team

In our new Team of the Month section, we highlight some of the important faces from across the industry who perhaps aren’t always in the public eye. This month, it’s the WD UK sales team.

Who’s in your team?
Jermaine Campbell and Yemi Elegunde (managing component sales), Will Lewis and Tarnia Churchill (managing branded sales), and Mikael Zeitlin and Kashmir Salhan (in channel marketing).

What’s been your biggest successes of the past 12 months?
Our biggest success was our channel focus. We demonstrated this by dedicating more time and marketing resources to help our key partners; either directly or indirectly via WD Direct, we increased our touch with large and smaller resellers. This was accomplished against a backdrop of a troubled market, unstable exchange rates and other macroeconomic issues. The channel rewarded us with loyalty and market share.

What’s the best part of working in your team?
There is definitely no “I” in our team. We are a small team covering a large UK business, we need each other and can rely on each other to remain motivated and focused. I know that I can count on my colleagues to give 100 per cent in spite of how busy we all are. This helps the team to reach and achieve our goals.

What’s the hardest part of working within the technology industry?
The industry is ever changing with the introduction of new technologies. Our core business is storage. We have to approach every quarter and every new trend with the same enthusiasm and drive that we had from the first day. We protect and grow our core business for our channel partners through being predictable, available, loyal and consistent in everything we do.

What’s the funniest or most memorable moment your team has had?
We all agreed conclusively that Jermaine Campbell’s first worldwide sales experience always tops this chart. While enjoying evening drinks at his first sales meeting, JC (as we call him) got the chance to meet and greet WD personnel from various departments around the world.

An unassuming man introduced himself to JC as John and said that he worked in the factory, JC took the opportunity to cement himself in John’s mind by saying that he was the ‘new kid on the block’ and would need many more drives built for the UK. JC said: “Things are gonna change around here and you better be ready! When I need drives you make sure you got them ready, I don’t wanna hear any excuses! Remember my name, I’m JC.”

The next morning while sitting at the global address meeting, JC was horrified to see the quiet, humble gentleman on stage applauded for his recent promotion. You see, John was actually John Coyne – the newly appointed CEO of WD!

Which member of the team makes the best cuppa?
That’s an easy one. It’s Mikael – because he’s the only one who drinks tea or coffee amongst us.
