Sales data collated by leading market research group GfK has found that the webbook market has grown by an astonishing 3332 per cent over the last 13 weeks.
According to the GfK UK Weekly Panel, which gathers week-on-week live sales data from across the UK, the tablet (which GfK calls webbooks) category has grown by over 2,000 per cent every month since the beginning of March.
Overall sales peaked with weekly growth of 6,502 per cent in late April, while in value terms, sales grew by 26, 210 per cent week-on-week in late May.
“I would add also that - although everyone says that tablets are killing the notebook and netbook market - based on our monthly panel, webbooks are actually beneficial to computing,” noted GfK’s business group director, Carl West.
“There is obviously an impact on netbooks, but I think you’ll find that webbooks are actually adding value to the wider marketplace. Not only that but if you look at the year-on-year volume combining all categories, webbooks is holding up the computing market.”
