Vendors Synology and Seagate have launched new Networked Attached Storage (NAS) devices.
Synology has released the DiskStation DS415play, a four-bay NAS server designed for home users to store videos, photos and music. It has 1080p Full HD video transcoding, allowing users to convert their media files to supported formats and stream them via Apple TV, DLNA devices, mobile devices and computers.
The DS415play is equipped with a 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU and 1 GB RAM, delivering an average of 112.45 MB/sec reading and 101.21 MB/sec writing speeds under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment. It runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0 OS.
“With four drive bays, the DS415play is built on the popularity of its little brother, DS214play, with up to 24TB of large storage space to make it even more appealing to media fanatics,” said Michael Wang, Product Manager at Synology.
Seagate, meanwhile, has announced the NAS and NAS Pro – a range of five NAS products designed for SMBs, with capacities from 2TB and 30TB targeting home offices and small businesses of up to 50 employees.
The Seagate NAS business storage is available in 2-bay and 4-bay configurations, with a Marvel Dual core 1.2GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. This is designed to address the storage needs of small office and home offices with up to 25 employees. It has an MSRP of £199 for the 2-bay 2TB to £399 for the 2-bay 8TB version. The 4-bay configuration ranges from an MSRP of £379 for 4TB to £749 for 16TB.
TheSeagate NAS Pro features Intel’s latest dual-core 1.7GHz C2000 Series processor, which is designed to perform well in multi-user and multi-dimensional environments. It has 2-bay, 4-bay and 6-bay models, which are priced from 4TB for an MSRP of £399, to 30TB capacities for £1,839. Outfitted with an Intel dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM, the NAS Pro is targeted at small office environments of 50 employees.
