There has been a massive increase in demand for NAS products within schools, storage vendor Synology has told PCR.
The firm said it is seeing an increase in demand for devices with the ability to share across multiple users but still offering security and encryption, particularly in the education sector.
“A NAS today is much more than data storage. It cannot only keep your data secure but also make the right files interactive and accessible to those with permission. Price levels are also very competitive, which is crucial to a schools budget,” explained Joanne Plummer, Synology’s UK, Ireland and Scandinavia marketing specialist.
Synology is expecting up to 50 per cent growth in the public sector throughout 2014 and has a range of categories, which it says includes NAS for larger schools, colleges and universities all the way down to small educational facilities.
As well as the education sector, VIP Computers thinks NAS will become more popular in homes.
“As the home user continues to generate content via video and pictures the need for home storage is set to explode,” said Jason D’Cruz, VIP’s marketing manager.
“Consumers expect to be able to access this content with ease via the home PC, tablet or mobile phone and brands like Synology and Asustor are ensuring this works as seamlessly as possible with their Android and IOS apps.”
