Stock in the Channel, the website aimed at resellers will sign up its thousandth customer within the next week. The service has signed up nearly 1000 resellers and is growing by about 50 to 100 every week. The service has also signed up a multitude of distributors including Ingram Micro and Computer 2000.
Speaking to PC Retail, director of Stock in the Channel, Tony Meyers said: "The key thing about the service is that it lets the smallest independent compete against the largest reseller."
"It's not uncommon for when I or one of my team speaks to a smaller reseller and asks them how their weekend was, they said: 'I spent most of it uploading images,' or 'checking the latest prices from the distributor," he added.
Meyers said that the inititive was definitely Web 2.0 driven. "For £250 a month, a reseller can have their own website that not only automatically updates stock information but also has the latest prices. It's not uncommon to see the type of sites we offer costing £1000 upwards and then of course you have other costs to worry about after that – all in all I honestly believe the service is really good value."
The website offers resellers the opportunity to view the latest stock and prices from over 20 distributors.
