The firm’s head of consumer electronics blasts rivals Apple and Samsung after revealing Huawei’s latest smartphone devices.
Richard Yu took the stage at this year’s CES event to announce the firm’s latest Ascend D2 and Ascend Mate smartphones, with the latter packing a 6.1-inch screen and is pegged as the world’s biggest device of its kind.
Whilst the devices received a mixed reception, with many citing the Mate’s screen size as too big, Yu has fired back stating that five-inch screens are simply "too small" for comfortable use when viewing videos and emailing.
Huawei are best known for producing low-cost budget smartphone devices, but have struggled to gain traction with mobile providers within the US.
As a result, the firm is now moving its focus to provide high-end handsets, designed to compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung.
Yu certainly lack confidence in Huawei’s ability to compete with the big players in the smartphone market, stating: "The best smartphone is from Huawei. Not from our competitors."
The CEO even moved to take a shot at both firms, highlighting Samsung’s Galaxy S III device as not using high-quality materials, stating "their plastic is very cheap."
On Apple, Yu simply said: "Steve Jobs is gone. Now there is a lack of innovation."
Whilst certainly not lacking the confidence to compete, it will be interesting to see if Huawei’s latest devices prove popular amongst users, enough to earn the trust of US carriers and consumers.
