Spotify releases iPhone application

Spotify releases iPhone application

Spotify has released a mobile version of its music streaming service, which allows users to stream songs straight to their iPhones.

The application, which is available from Apple’s App Store and the Android Market, is free to use but requires a £9.99 monthly premium Spotify subscription. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and smartphones using the Android platform.

The app allows users to stream music using a wifi or 3G connection, as well as temporarily storing playlists for up to 30 days, which can be listened to offline.

Spotify has over six million users across Europe, including two million in the UK. The company’s founder Daniel Ek told BBC News last month that he expected the new app to create a surge in premium subscriptions.
