Demand for touchscreen panel components has slowed down, despite reports that touchscreen devices are set to increase in popularity throughout 2008.Sources at Taiwan IC design houses indicated that demand for touch panels from both Europe and the US are slowing. This is in contrast to the recent CES show in Los Vegas, where touchscreen mobile internet devices were pushed heavily.
The sources blamed the weaker than expected demand on the fact that touch panels are largely found in more high-end applications, which has discouraged procurement. However, analysts at Digitimes still insist that touch panels are set for growth in 2008, with increases expected in the second quarter.
