Snow Leopard to be Intel-only

Snow Leopard to be Intel-only Snow Leopard looks set to drop support for PowerPC-based Mac systems according to an alleged screenshot of the upcoming operating system.

The shot, from French site Logicielmac, shows what it claims are the system specifications for the operating system which was provided to developers at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, this week.

It reads:

– An Intel processor
– An internal, external, or shared DVD drive
– At least 512MB of RAM
– Display connected to an Apple-supplied video card
– At least 9GB of disk space

The move had been expected for a while now, but if it is indeed a sign that Apple is ending support for PowerPC-based systems, then the vendor may seek to capitalise on the raft of current users who need to upgrade to boost Mac sales further.

Snow Leopard was said by Steve Jobs during his keynote on Monday to be launching in "about a year".
