The shipments and market share of smart phone, PC, and mobile phone vendors have been announced, revealing that smart phones overtook PC shipments for the first time last year.
In the final quarter of 2010, approximately 101 million smart phones were shipped compared to just 92 million PCs. The smart phone market has been rapidly growing in the last few years, most noticeably since the launch of iPhone in 2007.
While Nokia kept hold of the largest Smartphone market share, Apple stands firm in second, despite only having two phones on the market. Apple also remains the fifth biggest mobile phone vendor.
HP have the largest market share of PC’s closely followed by Dell, Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba. It is now worth watching the tablet market, as it is expected to grow in similar fashion to smart phones as more products emerge.
