Broadcaster Sky is to make available an Android app next month that will allow Sky customers to watch five Sky Sports channels, ESPN, Sky News and 11 Sky Movies channels.
The Sky Go Android app will, for some reason, not be available on all Android handsets but rather "the most popular Samsung and HTC handsets". By which they mean the HTC Desire, Desire S, Desire HD, Incredible S and Sensation while from Samsung only the Galaxy S and Galaxy S2 will be supported.
It's not clear why Sky Go will not work on handsets such as the Galaxy Nexus, which by any account is the measure of any of those phones. The company said "we have to tailor the Sky Go app for each model of smartphone which takes considerable time." One can only wonder how other Android developers manage making their apps work on virtually all devices with a minimum resolution.
Sky trotted out the same sort of line regarding Android tablets too.
Meanwhile the company added Sky Atlantic to the existing Sky Go app on iPhone, iPad and 4th-gen iPod touch apps.
