Sitecom launches Home Storage Center

Dutch IT vendor Sitecom has introduced the latest addition to its Smart Living range, the MD-253 Home Storage Center.

As the name suggests, the MD-253 is aimed at home users, allowing them to save digital photos, music and films in a central location and share them with other users on the network.

Consumers can create public accounts, as well as personal ones, which require a username and password to access private data and files.

The Home Storage Center automatically creates a duplicate of digital files that are saved on PCs and notebooks on the network, so that there is always a backed-up record of recent files. Content from external hard drives or USB sticks can also be copied simply by clicking on the ‘backup’ button.

The device’s two drive bays allow users to insert 3.5 SATA II hard disks without using any tools, while the gigabit network port guarantees high speed when reading and writing data. The built-in FTP server means that users can access saved files via the internet from any location.

The product also features a number of eco credentials. The energy-efficient fan automatically adjusts its speed depending on the temperature, while the device’s ‘link down’ feature puts the hard disks into stand-by mode if they are not accessed.

When combined with Sitecom’s TV Media Player, the user can access digital movies, music and photos saved on the Home Storage Center on a TV without the need for a computer.

The Home Storage Center can be purchased with or without a one TB hard disk through Meroncourt.
