Security spending to increase

Security spending to increase

Market researcher Gartner has found that enterprise security software and services spending is likely to increase by four per cent in 2010, outpacing all other areas of IT spending.

The survey of over a thousand IT professionals with budget responsibilities found that not only was spending likely to increase, but that there is a greater emphasis on the associated services, which are expected to see a spending boost of 2.74 per cent in the same period.

This increase has been driven by a general movement towards managed services, cloud-based email and third party consulting.

“In the current highly uncertain economic environment, with overall IT budgets shrinking, even the modest spending increases indicated by the survey show that security spending accounts for a higher percentage of the IT budget,” said Gartner principal research analyst Adam Hils. “Security decision makers should work to allocate limited budgets based on enterprise-specific security needs and risk assessments.”
