Seagate has launched a new entry-level business network storage server, the BlackArmor NAS 400, in the US market.
The NAS 400 is the newest product in the 400-series of NAS servers which already comprises of the NAS 420 and NAS 440. The NAS 400 offers the same feature set but without pre-installed drives which will allow the savvy buyer the flexibility to choose the best drives for the job.
The NAS 400 takes one to four drives, providing the capability to scale storage up over time up to a maximum of 8TB of storage capacity. There's also support for user-configurable RAID 0/1/5/10 and JBOD functionality along with hot swappable drives.
Also fitted with two Gigabit Ethernet ports and four USB, the NAS 400 provides the capability to share a USB printer to a network of workstations as well as workstation backup and email notifications. There's also Active Directory support, FTP access and DLNA streaming for iTunes or any other compatible service such as games consoles.
The BlackArmor NAS 400 is priced at $399.99 on the Seagate website with no word yet on European availability but since the NAS 420/440 were well received by the European market there's little reason to believe Seagate will hold back too long.
