Enthusiast site Hot Hardware has reviewed the forthcoming Samsung SSD 830 Series of solid state drives.
The Samsung SSD 830 Series is due to appear some time in October but Hot Hardware got in early and put a 256GB drive through its paces. The SSD 830 Series are 6Gb/s SATA III-capable drives to be available in 64, 128, 256 and 512GB sizes.
With quoted sequential read speeds of 520MB/s and up to 400MB/s for the larger drives, Hot Hardware said that the drive "offered top end performance throughout all of our testing," second only to SandForce SF-2200 controller based SSDs for write speed. The 830 Series was found to be fastest at reads.
"Our initial impression of the drive is excellent. If pricing is competitive and long-term reliability ends up being as good as Samsung’s previous-generation, the Samsung SSD 830 Series is sure to be a hit," said Hot Hardware.
