Owners of faulty smartphones are being asked to contact Samsung for replacements

Samsung confirms fatal Galaxy S5 camera error

Just weeks after the launch of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, a number of owners have complained of a major flaw with the device’s camera.

Verizon Wireless models in particular have seen the device’s 16MP camera rendered completely useless.

Owners have complained about a ‘camera failure’ error randomly popping up, which in turn causes the camera hardware to become permanently disabled.

At the moment there doesn’t seem to be a fix. Restarting and factory resetting the Galaxy S5 won’t solve the issue.

Samsung has confirmed that it is aware of the reports, with the company releasing the following statement to The Verge: "We have learned that a limited number of Galaxy S5 devices may have an issue that causes ‘Camera Failure’ pop-up error message."

Owners of faulty devices have been asked to contact Samsung to arrange an exchange under the firm’s warranty.

Verizon Wireless has also tweeted advice to its customers:

The Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone launched worldwide in April. As well as a 16MP camera, the device comes with 4K video capabilities, 5.1-inch display, 2.5GHz Quad-Core processor, 2GB of RAM and a battery that can last 20 per cent longer than the Galaxy S4’s.
