Retailers call for an end to DRM

Retailers call for an end to DRM The Entertainment Retail Association has called on Hollywood and record companies to stop using DRM in films and music, stating that the technology is the root cause of a fall in sales, not P2P piracy as the studios claim.

Speaking about the issue, the director general of the ERA, Kim Bailey warned that DRM was: "stifling growth and working against the consumer interest."

She told the studios that unless something was done to address the huge amounts of incompatible formats and make it clear how and where content could legally be used, the studios risked alienating its customers and, if anything, pushing them towards the use of P2P.
