UK retail sales saw continued year-on-year growth of 1.2 per cent last month, according to the latest figures from the British Retail Consortium. Its like-for-like figures, excluding new store openings, rose by 1.2 per cent during the month of November. It was a rise of one per cent on October's figures, which, according to the BRC, marked an 11-month low.
And while the BRC reported that electrical sales on the whole had "a slightly softer month overall," digital cameras, games consoles and laptops continued to drive growth.
The figures came as APACS, the UK payments association, released its December spending predictions, with it stating that it believes spending on cards will reach £53 billion this December – an increase of 4.2 per cent on the same period last year.
