Razer announce first 7.1 surround sound headset

Gaming peripheral specialist Razer has announced what the firm claims is the first 7.1 surround sound gaming headset.

The Razer Tiamet 7.1 "brings true-to-life pinpoint positional gaming audio with up to 10 discrete speaker drivers in each headset," the firm said.

Due to appear before the end of the year, the Tiamet 7.1 will cost US$179.99 or EU179.99, the company said. The high-end gaming headset also features an all-in-one volume control unit, retractable, noise-filtering unidirectional mic and interchangeable ear cup covers.

A 2.2 version unsurprisingly called the Razer Tiamet 2.1 will be somewhat cheaper at US$99.99 or EU99.99. The Tiamet 2.2 has two bass drives "to give gamers double the bass for double the impact".

"The Razer Tiamat headset range is the pride of our audio engineering," said Razer boss Robert Krakoff. "Surprise the enemy trying to creep up for a stealth kill, when you can hear their footsteps loud and clear behind you."
