Fox Studios trials new digital distribution service

Prometheus movie to be available on download before retail

Ridey Scott’s latest movie Prometheus is to be made available for digital download several weeks before it’ll be launched on disc and digital streaming services.

According to Reg Hardware, the move is part of a trial of the UltraViolet cloud movie service being undertaken by Fox Studios. It will be available in the US from September 18th, with DVD and Blu-Ray releases coming on October 11th.

During the trial period, Fox Studios will be offering early, lower priced sales on all its forthcoming films.

The UltraViolet service was established by a number of Hollywood studios, including Warner, Paramount, Universal and Sony, in order to take advantage of growing demand for digital content and to combat the growth of file sharing.

A UK version of the service is currently in development, with a launch expected for early next year.
