Phones4U has spent £1m on a state of the art training centre, which it has built to help its staff sell the retailer's increasingly diverse product portfolio, including laptops and mobile broadband.
The Fort Dunlop, Birmingham-based centre replaces its previous training base in Yarnfield and will be the focal point of a £5m spend on staff training throughout 2009.
Amongst the specialist facilities available at the new centre are dedicated areas for laptop, handset, application and Blackberry training.
The centre, which officially opened on May 1st, will host the retailer's compulsory week-long training programme for new members of staff. Current members of staff will be eligible to apply for training, but it will not be compulsory.
Speaking to Mobile News, the retailer's operations director, Tom Shorten said: "I am delighted to open the new training academy in Fort Dunlop. This reflects our commitment to our teams and will ensure that Phones 4U has the most knowledgeable, skilled and best-supported staff in the mobile industry.
"Current market conditions make it even more important for staff to be the very best that they can be, and despite the tough economic climate, Phones 4U will continue to invest in its people and the business."
