Intel’s CEO, Paul Otellini is to retire in May next year after nearly 40 years of continuous service to the company.
Otellini is the sixth chief executive in Intel’s 45-year history and his tenure has seen a number of key developments including the development of tro-gate transistors, the introduction of ultrabooks, the delivery of the first Intel-powered smartphones and tablets and the growth of cloud computing.
“Paul Otellini has been a very strong leader, only the fifth CEO in the company’s great 45-year history, and one who has managed the company through challenging times and market transitions,” said the chairman of Intel’s board of directors, Andy Bryant.
“The board is grateful for his innumerable contributions to the company and his distinguished tenure as CEO over the last eight years.”
The announcement will allow time for a leadership transition over the next six month.
