Palm responds to Apple threat

Palm responds to Apple threat Palm has warned Apple that it has "the tools necessary to defend itself," should the vendor launch legal action over alleged copyright infringement, as hinted at by chief operating officer and CEO-standee Tim Cook.

The copyright issues are in relation to the Apple iPhone and the Palm Pre's touch screen interface.

Cook, who was speaking to analysts in Apple's post results investor call, said: "We like competition as long as they don't rip off our IP – and if they do, we're going to go after anyone who does.

"We will not stand for having our IP ripped off – and we will continue to use any weapons that we have available. I don't think I can be any more clear than that," he added.

However, Palm spokeswoman Lynn Fox responded saying: "Palm has a long history of innovation that is reflected in our products and robust patent portfolio, and we have long been recognised for our fundamental patents in the mobile space."

"If faced with legal action, we are confident that we have the tools necessary to defend ourselves."
