?Overheating? Acer notebooks prompt recall

Acer has moved to recall a batch of its Aspire notebooks following fears that they overheat.

The firm has appealed to owners of certain Acer Aspire models to return them for a repair or replacement.

The models affected are the AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG; all if manufactured before Sep 15, 2009.

The overheating problem is believed to occur when the notebooks’ microphone cable is placed under physical pressure, which in turn causes the unit’s case to deform.

Acer will replace the microphone cable for models handed in. The firm insists that it was not forced to make a recall from a health and safety body.

Users suspicious of being affected by the manufacturing fault can click here, type in their notebook’s serial number, and get a diagnosis.
