But full site launch will take around three months to complete

OnBuy tech store could open next week, TV advertising due 2014

Online marketplace OnBuy, which aims to rival Amazon, says its tech and electronics checkout could open next week, and is planning to advertise on TV in 2014.

The site soft-launched on November 1st but MD Cas Paton says the full launch will take approximately three months to complete.

"This is a very large undertaking and will require several stages to be completed before the site is ‘launched’ in its entirety," he said.

"Firstly, we have to comb through and integrate all the product data we have received. Then we’ll open the checkout and begin trading. After this point we’ll start to develop; bringing fourth all the new marketplace features.”

The first aim for the company is to integrate the first traders who have joined the OnBuy family, then to open the checkout, making the site available to the public.

OnBuy staff are celebrating early integrations of sellers in the Electronics and Technology category. There are "significantly more" sellers who are trading consoles and games within the technology field, including those with smartphone and tablet products, says OnBuy.

After the first sellers are integrated, OnBuy will launch Outlets, which will have their own community of brand sellers with a dedicated area of the site.

OnBuy is also planning TV advertising in 2014.

“We plan to have the first television advertisement promoting OnBuy out by the end of next year," added Paton.
