Research by Ofcom has found that while more people are using mobile broadband than ever before, available bandwidth has decreased and download times have increased.
Among the findings was the fact that average download speed is now 1.5Mb/s, while basic webpages take around 8.5 seconds to load, compared to download speeds of 6.2Mb/s and page load times of less than half a second in late 2010.
“The figures from Ofcom fall broadly into line with our own research and frankly make pretty depressing reading,” commented Chris Marling, editor of broadband comparison website, Broadbandgenie.co.uk.
“They back our feeling that the UK's mobile networks are doing next to nothing to increase speeds, as they have stalled at below two megabits for a long time now.”
