O2 to enter laptop market this year

O2 to enter laptop market this year O2 is expected to launch a major offensive on the laptop and netbook market in the next couple of months as part of a wider revamp of the operator's retail strategy.

The firm is the last of the major UK networks to enter the market. However, the retailer is expected to take a slightly different tact to the product than its rivals, with reports suggesting that it will not be offering laptops for free, but at a discount price when bought as part of a mobile broadband contract.

It is currently unclear which vendors O2 has signed to supply laptops, although it has been suggested that the company will offer three SKUs.

The move comes as the operator prepares to revamp around 150 of its stores and launch a major staff training drive.

The deal means that all of the major operators have entered the laptop and netbook market, although T-Mobile has been forced to temporarily suspend its offers after it failed to secure a deal with alternative vendors after it ended its deal with Acer due to supply issues.
