Graphics specialist Nvidia announced the ‘world’s fastest’ graphics card, mating two Kepler GPUs in the large and expensive GeForce GTX 690.
Nvidia said the beast of a graphics card would "deliver the most refined, elegant and smooth PC gaming experience possible." At around US$1,000 for a single GTX 690, we should hope so too.
A single GeForce GTX 680 card recently took the crown from AMD in terms of the best performing single-GPU card and now the GTX 690 will have done the same at the ultra high-end of the market.
The double-GPU card was unveiled during Nvidia chief Jen-Hsun Huang’s keynote address as the firm’s Game Festival in Shanghai.
The GTX 690 also boasts an exterior frame fashioned from "trivalent chromium-plated aluminium" and a fan housing made of "thixomolded magnesium alloy," all of which combine to improve heat dissipation and dampen pesky vibrations.
Oh and they look cool too. The importance of aesthetics to gamers has not apparently been lost on Nvidia.
"The GTX 690 is truly a work of art — gorgeous on the outside with amazing performance on the inside," said Nvidia GPU veep Brian Kelleher. Gamers will also "relish showing their friends how beautiful the cards look inside their systems," Kelleher added.
The GeForce GTX 690 is set to appear in quantity from the 7th of May with partners including Asus, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Inno3D, MSI, Palit and Zotac.
