Norfolk children to get free laptops

Matt Grainger
Norfolk children to get free laptops Norfolk County Council has been allotted over £300,000 to provide laptops for 400 children in the area.

The money, taken from the governments Home Access ICT scheme, will allow laptop computers to be given to “young people who live in deprived areas, who are persistent absentees, traveller children, those in alternative education and those with English as a second language,” according to government computing news site, Kablenet.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to raise attainment among targeted groups of young people and to help promote the importance and value of learning,” said local cabinet member for Children Services, Rosalie Monbiot.

“Supporting those who have had long periods of absence from school will help them to re-engage in education and provide them with opportunities to catch-up with the work they have missed.”
