New flagship model includes ‘six-element lens’ for clearer images

Nokia slims down Lumia range and ditches built-in support for wireless charging

Nokia has announced the Lumia 925, a revamped version of its flagship model.

The new smartphone is slimmer than its predecessor, the Lumia 920, but its new figure comes at a price. The firm has decided to ditch built-in support for wireless charging so customers will have to get a ‘Cover’ (sold separately) to continue to take advantage of Nokia’s extensive wireless charging accessories.

The Lumia 925 is lighter than the 920, weighing 139g (0.31lb), it is also 2.2mm thinner as well. But along with losing built-in wireless charging support, the new phone has only half the amount of internal storage as the previous model.

The screen remains unchanged at 4.5-inches, however the new AMOLED display is higher in resolution than the 920’s.

The Lumia 925’s rear camera offers the same 8.7MPs as before, but with the addition of a six-element lens designed to further help correct image distortion. Nokia says this is the firm’s most advanced lens technology. So no massive 41MP camera then…

The Nokia Lumia 925 also introduces the new Nokia Smart Camera mode, which will come as an update to all Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

Nokia Smart Camera offers an easy way to capture ten images at once and edit the pictures with options like Best Shot, Action Shot, and Motion Focus for creating some interesting images.

The firm also announced that Hipstamatic’s new app, Oggl, will arrive on Nokia Lumia smartphones, allowing people to take and share high quality pictures with people from around the world. In addition to sharing photos on Oggl, users can simultaneously share photos on social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Flickr and Instagram.

Other specs include 2000 mAh battery, 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon, 1.2MP front-facing wide-angle camera, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 7GB free SkyDrive cloud storage.

Sales are expected to start in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and China in June, followed by the US and a number of other markets.
