Nokia Lumia range sells 1.3 million?

Nokia's first Windows Phone handset, the Lumia 800, has 'probably' sold more than 1.3 million devices providing a boost for the ailing smartphone maker and software partner Microsoft.

A Bloomberg report suggested the 1.3 million figure based on averages coming from 22 analysts with only one predicting less than a million. The figure relates to handsets sold to operators and retailers rather than end users.

An updated model, the Lumia 900, has been launched in the US offering 4G network capability and a larger 4.3-inch screen. In the UK specialist retailer Clove has launched a trial scheme where customers buying the Lumia 800 for £400 can return the device within 30 days.

Following a loss of half the Finnish phone maker's share price last year, Nokia shares have gained 15 per cent this year, largely off the back of improved investor sentiment given the Lumia 900's good showing at the CES show in January.

Over a million would be a good start for Nokia's high-end Windows Phones but it's still a long way short of the estimated 30 million iPhones sold in the final quarter of 2011 alone.
